Joyce Busby Fuller

Joyce Busby Fuller passed away on the 35,081st day of her life. She was born on January 26, 1928 to Charles Arthur Busby and Beulah Lee Shiver Busby in Pelham, Georgia. She was the oldest of four children: Charles Calvin “Buck” Busby (deceased), Arthur LeGary Busby (deceased), and Dora Jean Busby of Jacksonville.

Joyce was raised in Pelham, Columbus, and Valdosta, Georgia. She graduated Valdosta High School in 1945. On December 31, 1946 she wed Lee Herman (Hank) Townsend, Jr. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Lee was stationed in the Navy. After a two year stint in the Navy, Lee and Joyce moved to Tallahassee. Joyce became a cashier at the old McCrory’s.

It was in Tallahassee that Lee and Joyce had three children: Celeda Christie (Lewis) of Carrabelle, Florida, Sandi Brooks of Tallahassee, Florida, and Hank Townsend (Mary) of Tallahassee, Florida.

After taking typing and dictation classes at Lively Vocational School, Joyce got a job at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, originally as a Nurse Clerk and then as the secretary for the Director of Nursing. It was around 1965 that she began working as the receptionist/insurance biller for Doctor Luther Pararo. She continued working in this position for 26 years when Doctor Pararo retired. She then went back to work at TMH for nine months when she decided to retire.

On December 11, 1986, Joyce married the love of her life, Samuel William Fuller. When they both retired, they spent their time traveling and doing genealogy research. They were seldom without each other and took trips to Europe (England, Ireland, France, Austria, Wales, Germany, and Italy), the west coast, Savannah, Charleston, New Orleans, and numerous FSU football games.

Joyce is survived by her sister, children, and Bill’s children: Bill Fuller (Sylvia) of Tallahassee, Florida, Robert Fuller (Barbara) of New Albany, Mississippi, and Don Fuller of Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren Carla Wester of Jacksonville, Florida, Will Christie of Tallahassee, Amy Hayden of Tallahassee, Whitney Marston of Tallahassee, Brooke Fuller of Tallahassee, Will Fuller of Denver Colorado, and Lindsey Hester of Santa Claus, Indiana as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Rd, Tallahassee, FL from 5:30pm until 7:00pm. The memorial service will be at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Meridian Rd, Tallahassee, FL at 10:00am on Friday, February 16, 2024. Friends may visit with the family immediately after the service in the Faith Fellowship Hall.
