Services will be held at 12:30 p.m.EST Monday March 15, 2010 at Culley's Meadow Wood Timberlane Funeral Home with burial following at MeadowWood Memorial Park. Friends of the family may call at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a donation in Judy's name to the St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
Judy was born and raised in West Frankfort, Illinois, and lived in several small towns in that area until she moved to Chattahoochee, Florida in 1972. She was employed at Florida State Hospital for a short time and then at River Junction Correctional Institution until 1985, when she moved to Tallahassee. She also completed degrees from Tallahassee Community College and Florida A & M University. In Tallahassee, she supervised a women's work release center until she transferred to the Department of Corrections' Central Office in 1989. She retired in 2000 foliowing the onset of Cancer.
Judy enjoyed making her own greeting cards, writing children's books for her grandchildren, and writing poetry, especially about her wonderful childhood memories. She also loved to crochet and made dozens of baby blankets for friends and various charities. Music was her passion, and she made numerous trips to New York City with family and friends to see her favorite Broadway musicals. She was a member of Celebration Baptist Church. Through her long illness, she never lost her sense of humor nor her trust in her Lord Jesus Christ.
In addition to her devoted husband, Arnold, Judy is survived by her three loving children: Chari Wester (and husband Dale) of Tallahassee; Becky Wescoat (and husband Jay) of Quincy, and Steve Pyle (and wife Lori) of West Palm Beach; seven'grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sue Griffin of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Marian Thompson (and husband Jim) of West Frankfort, Illinois, and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
