

On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, Judith (Judi) Mulloy passed away at the age of 79 in Tallahassee, Florida. Judith, the eldest daughter of the late Helen (Ridgway Mulloy) Cloud and Patrick Mulloy, was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on June 13, 1942. As an Air Force family, the Mulloys lived in a variety of places before returning home to Laurel, Mississippi.
Judith will be remembered for her commitment to the arts and art education. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the Mississippi University for Women and her Master’s degree from Florida State University. She was an art teacher and administrator for the Leon County School District. Upon her retirement, she moved to Shooting Creek, North Carolina, where she worked and attended classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School. Upon her return to Tallahassee, she continued to practice her love of spinning, weaving, and textile art as a member of the Seven Hills Handweavers Guild in Tallahassee. She was also active with Nona Weavers in North Carolina, the Florida Tropical Weavers Guild, and the Handweavers Guild of America.
Judith is survived by her son Patrick Kates (Julia Bluhm Kates), grand-daughter Lillian Bluhm Kates, her sister Peggy Mulloy Neely, and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her spouse James Kates, brother Patrick Eugene Mulloy, brother James William Mulloy, and former spouse Ralph Vaughn.
Judith was a tremendously creative, independent woman who supported fellow artists enthusiastically.
She filled her life with bright colors and beautiful flowers.
A memorial service will be held on July 10, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, Florida.
