
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST, Monday, February 7, 2011 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home Chapel on Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL.
A native of Cairo, GA, Lew graduated from Cairo High School where he played football, and was the team's quarterback when Cairo High won its first State Championship Title in 1946. Lew proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Air Force. He attended Mercer University in Macon, GA, and graduated from Florida State University in 1953. He served as Assistant State Treasurer with the State of Florida Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner's Office and served as Senior Vice President of Government Relations, Florida Bankers Association, retiring from the banking industry in 1991.
Lew was an avid golfer, and regularly played golf at Killearn Golf and Country Club during the spring and winter months, and played golf in the mountains of North Carolina in the fall and summer months, where he and his wife, Martha, spent their summers since Lew's retirement in 1991. Lew set a beautiful example of what a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather should be.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, of 23 years; two sons, Ken Carr (wife Diane) of Tallahassee, FL, and Bob Carr (wife Freda) of Baker, FL; two daughters, Kathy Duncan of Pace, FL, and Lisa King (husband Bill) of Bethesda, Maryland; one brother, William Carr of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one stepson, Ryan Glover (wife Betsy) of Orlando, FL; one stepdaughter, Sheila McPhaul of Tallahassee, FL. Lew has five grandchildren: Jonathan Duncan (Atlanta. GA), Jamie Duncan (New Orleans, LA), Lindsey King, Maggie King, Sarah King (Bethesda, Maryland); four step grandchildren: Nic Batchelor, Jenni Hosford, Terri Jo Glover (Tallahassee, FL), Emily Glover (Orlando, FL), and one step great granddaughter, Belle Batchelor (Tallahassee, FL).
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
