

Kenneth Dewitt Richards, Sr., 74, of Tallahassee, died October 14, 2013 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Dewitt was born February 6, 1939 in Dale County, Alabama to Ezra and Effie (Carlile) Richards and moved to Tallahassee in 1968. Dewitt retired in 1997 from the City of Tallahassee where he was employed for over thirty years with the Underground Utilities Department.
He is a Vietnam War Veteran and a proud member of United States Army, Company B, 4th Engineering Battalion, and 4th Infantry Division. While in Vietnam Dewitt was a recipient of the Army Medal of Commendation. Locally, Dewitt was very active in his church, Freedom Church First Assembly of God, and also a member of the American Legion, Post #13, Tallahassee.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Gladys Baker and Jimmie Lou Galloway; his brothers, Atlas Richards and Jack Richards. Dewitt was united in marriage in 1958 to his wife, Caroline Ward Richards who resides in Tallahassee. He is also survived by his son, Kenneth (Stephanie) Richards, Jr. of Tallahassee; his sisters, Nadine Jenkins of Bandera, TX, Eleanor Vanderham of Tampa, FL and Annie Ruth Benton of Woodbury, TN as well as his twin granddaughters, Hope & Joy Richards.
Friends and neighbors will be received 2-3pm Thursday at Freedom Church where funeral services will be held that day at 3pm. Interment will take place in Meadowwood Memorial Park.
