

Kirk Alan Watson, age 46 of Tallahassee, died Friday, August 7, 2015 surrounded by his family at home. Kirk was a graduate of Godby High School, Tallahassee Coummunity College and was a Criminology major at Florida State University. He had a strong passion for music and played trumpet for many years throughout high school and then in college with the Florida State University Marching Chiefs. Kirk found his calling in law enforcement. After attending Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy, where he was named “Top Gun” for his firearm skills, he worked for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for 3 years and served the remainder of his career with the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) for twenty years. His love for animals and nature led him to the position of lead Canine Trainer for TPD for the last fourteen years. During his law enforcement career he earned many awards including the Medal of Bravery. He spent every possible moment with his family on countless trips of camping, kayaking, biking, and anything that included nature. Kirk had an infectious smile that made everyone feel at ease. He was a brave and courageous man, loving husband and father, and loyal friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and the Tallahassee community he served so honorably. He is survived by his wife Shelby, daughter Olivia (15), son Jonah (13), father and mother Ret. Major Al Watson and Lois of Tallahassee, brother Al Watson (Kim) of Tallahassee, his children Jake, Courtney, and Austin, sister Marti Watson of Tallahassee, her children Kaylin and Kyle, and dozens of cousins.
