Leland married Nan Albritton Greene on March 1, 1986.
Leland had a long and respected career as a Professional Land Surveyor, Geographer and Mapper for numerous government agencies and private companies. He began his career as a Draftsman using inking pens on linen and performed early calculations using a slide rule. Some of the work he was deeply involved with and responsible for included substantial layout and surveying of Killearn Estates and numerous other area subdivisions and developments, substantial input and design of GIS mapping and survey data of sensitive and endangered wildlife habitat areas including the Scrub Jay habitat in Brevard County and the Key Deer habitat in the Middle Keys in Monroe County for the Florida Department Of Natural Resources. He was held in high esteem by his peers and his profession.
He was a voracious reader who enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and almost any activity on the water under sail or power. Leland also held a private aircraft pilots license and owned several aircraft over the years. He was never afraid to try new things and would always strive to learn as much as he possibly could to bring his very best to whatever endeavor he undertook. Everything he did, everywhere he went, he touched people…he will be sorely missed and his loss deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
At the family’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Leland’s ashes will be scattered near the location his Grandfather used to take him fishing as a child.
