

She was the last of 12 children born to Emma and Rudolph (Rentsch) Herold in Miccosukee, Florida. She had 6 brothers (Rudolph, Elwin, Emmett, Leslie, Dewey, and Bill) and 5 sisters (America Russell, Marie Pilcher, Daisy Parks, Ruby Hutson, and Emily Rawls) who preceded her in death.
In 1948 she married Charles Robert (Bob) Yates Sr, who passed away in 2020. She is survived by daughter, Lynn Yates Colvard (David), of Raleigh, NC; and son, Chuck Yates, of Mint Hill, NC; as well as grandchildren, Daniel Colvard, Stacy Colvard Hountras, Ben Yates, and Kimberly Yates; and great-grandchildren, Lewis and Maris Colvard.
For 75 years Linda served as an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. Most recently, Linda and Bob founded the Heritage Center, which chronicles the long history of the church.
While a student at Leon High School, Linda developed her love of writing as editor of the school newspaper and decided to pursue a career in journalism. After marriage, she transferred from the Florida State College for Women (now FSU) to the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with honors.
She worked with the Florida Bar Journal, a publication for attorneys, for 30 years and became managing editor. In her spare time, she used her writing skills as a volunteer in her church and community and was a leader in several civic organizations.
Linda had a passion for gardening and enjoyed tending to the gardens at Goodwood plantation as well as her own. She wrote many articles on gardening for The Tallahassee Democrat.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21 at 11am at Trinity United Methodist Church following a private interment service for family at Tallahassee Memory Gardens.
