

Mal was a native Floridian, born in Lake City, Florida, on August 31, 1929, to Noah Washington Green, Sr. and Wealthy Edith Denmark. He was raised in Union County, Florida, where he graduated from Union County High School in 1947. He developed a strong work ethic as a young man growing up in a farming and ranching community with all the responsibilities of rural living. Mal enlisted in the United States Navy and served one year before transferring his commitment to the United States Air Force. His career in the armed forces occurred during the time of the Korean Conflict and included tours of duty in Africa and the Middle East. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and enrolled at Florida State University the same year to take advantage of the GI Bill. He drove a taxi after classes to supplement his income and graduated in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in business.
While a student at FSU, Mal met Dorothy Lou "Dottie" Pararo. They were married on March 26, 1954. Dottie's employment as an executive secretary enabled Mal to pursue his education without incurring debt. Post-graduation, Mal gain immediate employment with La Brano Machinery Company as Sales Promotion Manager in Jacksonville. Five years later, he was sent to Tallahassee to Manage La Brano's local operation. Shortly thereafter, Ring Power Corporation, dealer of Caterpillar heavy equipment, bought La Brano and Mal continued as Branch Manager of the new merger. He retired in 1998 at the age of 69 as Vice President and General Manager after a thirty-seven year tenure with the company.
Mal's business acumen attracted the attention of the Talquin Electric Cooperative Board which appointed him to serve on its Board of Trustees. He served the Coop for 32 years, 15 as Board President. Concurrently, Mal served 14 years on the Board of Seminole Electric Cooperative, the wholesale power supplier to nine Florida electric cooperatives including Talquin Electric, presiding as president for 3 of those years. Mal was trained as a fixed wing pilot and kept his own plane for many years. He was a gentleman rancher, keeping a few horses, but saying of himself that he was all hat and no cattle. He and Dottie enjoyed travel, especially exploring the American West. Together they extensively researched her genealogy and compiled a well-ordered book of records, photos and family history.
Mal is survived by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Dottie. He is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Noah Washington Green, Jr.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308 with funeral services beginning at 11am. Burial with military honors will be at Roselawn Cemetery, 843 Piedmont Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32312 following the service.
Charitable contributions in Mal's memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Big Bend Hospice.
