Marjorie Harrington

Marjorie June Grear Harrington (“Nunie”), age 86, of Tallahassee, went to be with her Lord on October 28, 2016. Margie, the youngest of eight children, was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She was married to Roger L. Harrington (deceased) for sixty-five years. Margie attended Florida Atlantic University, Barry University in Miami and received her MSW from Florida State University.

Margie served as a minister’s wife for forty years in addition to working for Florida State University, the Social Security Administration, Fort Pierce Mental Health Center and in her own private therapy practice for twenty years. Margie co-founded Treasure Coast Hospice, one of the first hospice organizations in Florida. Hospice care, along with geriatric mental health and caring for caregivers remained a focus of her enthusiasm throughout her life.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, her son, Derek, infant son, Jeffrey, her parents and siblings. Margie is survived by her children: Michael Harrington (Beth Jacobs) of Quincy, Cindy Lou Harrington (Michael Wheeler) of Atlanta, and AmyLynn Harrington Smoot (Bill) of Tallahassee, daughter-in-law, Dorothy Harrington of Fort Pierce, and her grandchildren: Charlotte Harrington Stahlberg (Matt), Day Grear Harrington (Joshua Swint), Jacob Fryar, Brittany Pool Cyr (Austin), Tiffany Fryar Carruthers (Silas), Taylor June Pool Estes (Joseph), and Lloyd Harrington (Lydia Laseur). Margie had 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel at First Baptist Church, Tallahassee. After the service, the family will receive friends. A celebration of Margie’s life, with a New Orleans-style graveside service, will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood, on Timberlane, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Treasure Coast Hospice, 9065 SE Bridge Road, Hobe Sound, FL 34986 or online www.tchospice.org.
