Martha Purvis Hicks

Martha Purvis Hicks, 72, of Tallahassee, passed away on May 26, 2013.

Martha was born March 24, l941, in Cordele, Georgia. She attended Crisp County High School where she met Jerry Hicks. They were married 51 years and had three children. Martha worked at the registrar’s office at Florida State University while her husband attended school there, and they were both avid Seminole fans. She was blessed to be a homemaker and had a lot of pride in her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Canopy Roads Baptist Church and had many wonderful friends and family that enriched her life. She loved to cook, sew, visit with friends, take care of her family and traveled extensively throughout the United States with her husband after retirement.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hicks.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne and wife Tara of Hickory, NC and Keith and wife Deidre of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Debbie Pitts and husband Mike of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Dorothy Beaty of Barwick, GA and Mary Jean Venable of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Austin Pitts, Jonathan Pitts, Kyle Hicks, Nicole Hicks, Troy Hicks, and Fallon Hicks.

The funeral service will be held ll:00 am Saturday, June l, at Canopy Roads Baptist Church, 925 Bannerman Road, Tallahassee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice at 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
