

Mary Stuart (Yancey) Hartmann, 101, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on June 16, 2024. She was born on April 16, 1923, in Ocala, Florida, and was the eldest of ten children of Malcolm and Annie Mae Yancey.
Mary Stuart is survived by five of her six children: Mary Ann Ticen, William L. "Bill" (Sarah) Hartmann, Jr., E. Eugenie "Genie" Hartmann, Stephen R. (Renee) Hartmann, and Gretchen (Don) Waldo. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary Stuart was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William L. Hartmann, Sr., her daughter, Patricia (Dave) Newton, her great-granddaughter, Ainsley Evangeline Hartmann, and her nine younger siblings.
She graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee, and later from Florida State College for Women in the Class of 1944, where she was president of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and a member of the home economics and chemistry honor societies. Mary Stuart received her certification as a Dietician from Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City in 1945.
A devout and inspirational member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee and St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Linville, North Carolina, Mary Stuart found solace and community in her places of worship. Mary Stuart was known for her generosity, faithfulness, piety, and open-mindedness. She was described as amazing, wonderful, angelic, selfless, and feisty by those who knew her well.
Mary Stuart's hobbies included golf, in which she achieved four holes-in-one and frequently shot her age between the ages of 80 and 95. She and Dr. Hartmann belonged to the Killearn Country Club in Tallahassee, and were early members of the Grandfather Golf & Country Club in Linville, at which she won many titles and championships. Additionally, Mary Stuart excelled in tournament croquet and was known for her exceptional baking skills, especially her homemade bread, Amaretto cake, and a 45+ year tradition of intricately decorated Santa Claus cookies.
A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee on Tuesday, June 25, at 11:00 am, with burial to follow at Culley's MeadowWood on Timberlane Road in Tallahassee.
