Mary Jean Whitfield Revell

Mary Jean Whitfield Revell, 89, of Tallahassee, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Born in New York City, New York on April 9, 1928; she was the daughter of William Knott and Virginia Reece Whitfield.

Jean was a proud member of the Leon High School class of 1946. She attended Florida State University and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After high school she was married and was the proud and devoted mother to Jay and Lynn.

She was a member of the Caroline Brevard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the only member to serve as Chapter Regent twice. She held many offices and committees in the Chapter and continued to be an advisor to Chapter Regents. She was active in and served as President of the Dominie Everardus Bogardus Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, charter member of Treaty of Ghent Chapter United States Daughters of 1812 and a charter member of Mission San Luis de Apalachee Chapter Daughters of the American Colonists.

She had a passion for genealogy and had 10 proven and verified Revolutionary War ancestors. She loved her family, friends, flowers, pets, reading, needlework, travelling and her beloved Florida Gators. She spent many happy times with family at her St. Teresa Beach house.

Jean is survived by her son, Jay B. Revell and her daughter, Lynn Revell Quinsey and her husband, Wayne Quinsey. She is also survived by her grandson, Richard Quinsey and his wife, Patricia; and her great grandchildren, Logan and Laura. Additional survivors include her brother, William Knott Whitfield and his wife, Nancy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Nata Borth for her friendship and loving care of Jean. They shared many, many, good books together.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road in Tallahassee. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be private.
