Michael Dewey Bean (“Mike”) 82, retired for 20 years but was a Programmer Analyst with the City of Tallahassee and others and a resident of Tallahassee, Florida died at home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
The son of the late Arlo Leroy and Dora Inez Bean (Cook), he served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the Presidential Honor Guard stationed at the Presidential Mountain Retreat, Camp David, Maryland from September 1963 to September 1966.
Mike enjoyed golf and sports, particularly FSU football and baseball. Until his health prevented it, he played golf twice a week with the men’s HOGS group (Hilaman’s Own Golfing Seniors) and on Sundays with his wife and frequently his grandson, Jacob Scott Bean. He was an avid FSU fan and rarely missed watching a game either in person or on TV. He also attended all but a handful of his grandson Jacob’s little league baseball games from the time Jacob was 4 (tee ball) till he was 15. You could always count on him being there to root him on. Likewise, he attended all of his granddaughter, Kaylie Elizabeth Bean’s, soccer league games from the time she was 8 to 10 and later the Chiles High School games to watch her cheer.
What Mike loved most was his family. His Mama and Daddy, his sister Beverly Braun and his sister Penny Dawn who all preceded him in death. Mike is survived by his wife of 27 years Lynn Bean, his sons Michael Christopher Bean and Scott Leroy Bean, daughter-in-law Deborah Kay Bean, his stepson, Gregory Lee Knapp, his sister Teresa Bean Hightower. In addition to grandchildren Jacob, Kaylie, and Gregory DeSean Knapp, he loved his bonus grandchildren Dr. Lindsey Ferko, (mother of Claire Elizabeth Ferko), Kenneth Ellis, III, and Katherine Ellis, his “Sweet Pea”, Susan Renee Nelms, and his most recent prized possession, great granddaughter, Emerson Grace Bean, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A public visitation for Michael will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312, followed by a funeral service with military honors from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
