Oscar (Bud) Lund was our father. He was born in Upham, ND on Nov. 12, 1921 to Oscar J. Lund and Magdalene Grondahl Lund of Minot, ND. He was their 5th child and one of three sons that served in the Military. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Minot. He enlisted in the US Army in 1941 as a Private and began service as a communication specialist. He advanced from Private to Master Sergeant within communications and later served as Storage Officer at Pirmasens and Heidelberg Germany. From there he and his family had a series of moves to: Lexington Signal Depot, KY; 101St Airborne Division, 501st Airborne Signal Battalion, Fort Campbell KY; Artillery School, Fort Sill, OK; Battalion Supply Officer and advisor to the Chief of Storage Division, Republic of Korea Army Signal Base Depot. While in Korea he was a Boy Scout Liaison Officer to the Korean Boy Scouts and was awarded a letter of appreciation and Korean Boy Scout Medal. His last station was at Tobyhanna Signal Depot, PA where he was an assistant to the Executive Officer of Supplies and Secretary for the Officer’s Club. This summary represents 22 years of service. In 1961 he retired as Chief Warrant Officer W2. During his course of service he received the Army Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and American Campaign Medal. He and his family returned to Lexington, KY where he began his second career in medical supply management at UK Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital. In 1998 he and his wife Marguerite moved to Tallahassee, FL to be close to their daughter, Linda Meadows. His wife of 52 years passed away on June 26, 1999. In 2002, he moved to Nashville, TN to spend time with daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Ken Miller, and son John Lund. In 2007 he entered Lake City VA Medical Center where he died on September 8, 2011.
CWO Lund will be laid to rest Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Tribute/Memorial.
He is survived by daughter Linda Meadows of Tallahassee, FL; daughter and son-law Melanie Lund Miller and Kenneth R. Miller, son John Michael Lund of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren and one great grandchild of Lexington, KY.
We cherish all the wonderful Army and civilian memories with you, Dad. You were the best jitterbug dancer at the officers’ clubs. We love you and will miss you. We are so grateful that you now rest in peace with Mom.
