Richard M. Dozier Sr.

Dr. Richard Moore Dozier was born on August 27, 1932 to the parents of Dr. Laurie L. Dozier and Mary Brown Dozier in Tallahassee, Florida. He attended Leon High School, obtained his A.B. degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, received his M.D. degree in 1957 from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, TN.

Dr. Dozier dedicated over 46 years of his life to the practice of medicine. First practicing internal medicine, he shared office space in the Medical Arts Building at the corner of Miccosukee and Magnolia with his father, who began practicing medicine in Tallahassee in the 1920’s, and his brother, Dr. Laurie L. Dozier, Jr., also practicing internal medicine. In 1969 he returned to the Lahey Clinic in Boston, MA for a Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology, upon completion being offered the opportunity to be the head

of the Department of Allergy and Immunology. But southern roots returned him home to Tallahassee, practicing allergy and immunology from 1970 to 2002, beloved by his patients throughout the Tallahassee area and south Georgia. Throughout his many years of practice he maintained boards in both Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology.

Dr. Dozier chaired various committees with TMH; in 1972 was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, J. Hillis Miller Health Center, Gainesville, FL; in 1973 served as Clinical Assistant Professor, Program of Medical Sciences, Florida State University; in 1974 appointed Associate Fellowship and in 1975 appointed as Fellow of the American College of Allergists. Through all his years

of practice he maintained membership and affiliation with twelve local, state and national medical societies.

Being a longtime member of the Exchange Club of Tallahassee, a continuous participant in the various activities, he received his Lifetime Achievement Certificate in 2012 for over 50 years of service.

Dick Dozier loved his hometown of Tallahassee, never considered living anywhere else. Becoming an Eagle Scout, he grew up enjoying the outdoors, hunting with his father and friends. Taking up golf later on, he volunteered his time as Doctor of the Day during Tallahassee tournaments. Loving the game of golf, he was a longtime patron of the August National Golf Tournament. Being fortunate to receive two additional tickets, the family now carries on the tradition of annually attending the tournament, with as much love and passion for the game as Dick Dozier.

Survivors include his wife for 41 years Linda Dozier; his children Richard Dozier, Jr. (Teresa), Holly Plaviak (Mike), Suzanne Harvey (Mark) and Robert Dozier; grandchildren Ryan Dozier (Elisabeth), Samantha Bennett (deceased) and Sarah Williams; great grandchildren Anna, Elijah and Josiah Dozier; nephews Laurie (Kelly) and John (Martha) Dozier, nieces Sarah Sherraden (Dr. Terry) and Debbie Blinderman. Preceeded in death were his parents Dr. Laurie Dozier, Sr. and Mary Dozier, brother Dr. Laurie Dozier, Jr. (Margaret) and granddaughter Samantha Bennett.

The family would like to thank all who gave their love and support to Richard Dozier through the years, the wonderful and exemplary care given by Big Bend Hospice, and the caring and compassionate staff of Your Life of Tallahassee.

Memorial service will be Friday, November 30th, 3:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church Fellowship Hall. Contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, The Alzheimer’s Association, TMH Foundation or FSU School of Medicine.
