

Richard was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving three tours in the First Calvary. He retired from Pratt-Whitney as an aircraft mechanic. He was passionate about cars and motorcycles and proudly told listeners that he was licensed to drive on three continents. He loved travel, especially to the Smokey Mountains. He was married to Pamela Garrett.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Raymond “Pete” Garrett. He is survived by his mother, Bethalinn Stilwell; his sons Jeffrey (Amanda) Garrett and Andrew (Quinn) Garrett; his step-children Kevin, Drew and Kelsey Owen; his step-granddaughter Cloee Owen; many nieces, nephews and others who thought he was the wisest and wittiest person they had ever met, and his very good friend Jim Lieb. His siblings are Linda (Ron) Gressel, Cindy Irvin, Sandy Knight, Steve (Teresa) Garrett.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308. The celebration of life will begin at 3:00 pm and will include military honors. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Special Olympics Leon County, Mahan Dr., Suite 1, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
