Dick was born an orphan in Boston, Massachusetts on March 20, 1934. He lived an extraordinary life, including serving in the Army overseas during the Korean War and later joining the Air Force. He owned and operated numerous convenience stores over the course of his life, including Murray’s Texaco at the corner of Hwy 29 and 35 in Georgetown where everyone knew they could always find good conversation and a helping hand. He enjoyed “going after the big fish” oil companies to advocate for independent store owners like himself. He never met a stranger, particularly within the recovery community, where he formed numerous lifelong relationships and touched the lives of countless others.
Later in life, he met the love of his life, Judy Moon, with whom he shared the last 20 years in Tallahassee, FL. From cruises and vacations, to making sure she never had to wait at the airport, or simply making a hot cup of overly strong coffee, he always made sure she was taken care of first. He loved telling stories of his early life escapades and telling one-liner jokes, but most of all, he loved sharing stories of his children and grandchildren; he was always so proud of his family.
He is survived in life by his life partner Judy Moon of Tallahassee, FL; two children - Brian Murray and wife Nancy of Jarrell, and Leslie Woods and Husband Jason of Cross Plains; four grandchildren - Joseph Murray and wife Jessica of Temple, Kristoffer Warren of Georgetown, Jessica Little and husband Robert of Jarrell, and Kody Whitt and wife Kristin of Cross Plains; eight great grandchildren; and sister Nancy Lakin and husband Kenneth of Boston, MA.
He will be loved and greatly missed by his family and friends, worldwide.
A celebration of life will be held at Moravian Hall, 2300 CR 316, Georgetown, TX 78626, on Saturday, September 6th at 2:00pm.
