
Robert Warren Havens passed away in Tallahassee FL on May 3, 2016 at the age of 94.
Bob Havens was born in 1922 in Omaha NE to Jeannette and Mark Havens. He received a BS in chemical engineering from University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1944. After enlisting in the Navy, he served as ensign and Deck Division Officer on the USS Tyrrell, an attack cargo ship that carried military cargo and landing craft in support of Marine operations in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Following an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to University of Nebraska where he met his future wife Lillian Soderberg and received an MS in organic chemistry. They were married in 1951. Bob enjoyed a rewarding career with DuPont for over 35 years, living first in Arlington NJ, Beaumont TX, and finally in Vienna WV where they raised their family and eventually retired. Bob was an active volunteer, working for 22 years with the American Lung Association, 18 years on the WV Safety Council Board of Directors, and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He and Lillian moved to Tallahassee FL in 2001.
Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Anna Lillian Margaret Soderberg Havens.
He is survived by his children and their spouses Dr. Margaret Havens Neal (Patrick) of Tallahassee FL and Dr. John Robert Havens (Joni) of Evergreen CO, and by four grandsons Dr. Eric Neal of Orlando FL, Dr. Kevin Neal of St. Louis MO, Dr. Alex Neal of Santa Rosa CA, and Matthew Neal of Gainesville FL.
He will be remembered with love and gratitude.
The family would like to thank everyone from Brookdale, Big Bend Hospice and our private caregivers for their loving care.
A family ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice or American Lung Association.
