

in Greensboro, North Carolina on March 19, 1934; the middle of seven siblings. She graduated from
Greensboro High School where she received a Distinguished Achievement Certificate the American
Legion.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years, James William Rogers, who she met while they were both
serving in the U.S. Navy. She is also survived by her son, Theodore Robert Rogers and his wife Elicia
Rogers; her daughter, Eleanor Ann Rogers; five grandsons, Brett Rogers, Kyle Rogers, Ryan Rogers,
Shane Rogers and Justin Miller; one great grandson, Riley Rogers; two brothers; and two sisters.
After high school, Ruth enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Communications Technician and received an
honorable discharge in 1955 on the occasion of her marriage. As her children grew, Ruth gave
generously of her time to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the Red Cross.
She also gave generously to many charities such as the Alzheimer's Society, Habitat for Humanity, and the Salvation Army. In her 40's, Ruth returned to school and received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of West Florida in education after which she worked as a high school teacher while also volunteering for a literacy program.
The Rogers family will receive friends in the Capital Room of Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home – 1737 Riggins Road – on Monday, December 16, 2019 from 6-8pm. The graveside service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, December 17 at the Tallahassee National Cemetery. At its conclusion the US Navy and Big Bend Honor Guard will honor her for her service to our Country.
Following the service, the family invites you to join them for a reception at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home - Riggins Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a cancer charity are welcomed.
