

Shirley White Smith, 68, of Tallahassee died Monday, October 16, 2017 from congestive heart failure. Born in Winona, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Beverley Blackstone White and Lorena Mary Hauser.
Shirley attended both Leon High School and Florida State University, where she graduated with a degree in Nursing. In 1985, she married G. David Smith, who survives. She was a registered nurse working in Tallahassee Memorial's Labor & Delivery and Children's Medical Services for the State of Florida throughout her career up until her retirement in 1999. An avid gardener and bird enthusiast, Shirley was known for her love of bird-feeding, FSU sports, tennis, music, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a long time practitioner of Tai Chi, and an active member of the "press club" of St. Peter's Anglican Church.
Survivors include her husband, G. David Smith; sisters, Beverly W. DeGennaro (husband Michael) and Linda W. Frick (husband Bill); children: Tregg Smith, Tricia Smith, Charla Penn, Donald Penn, and grandchildren: Rowan, Nikolas, Conor, Yana, and Fiona.
A memorial service will be held on November 2nd at St. Peter's Anglican Church at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested cards and positive thoughts and prayers during this time.
