Swathed in her favorite Little Mermaid blanket, Skylar Marie Meckes, light of our lives, joy of our hearts, took her last breath this side of heaven at home on May 4, 2020. She was cuddled in the arms of her mother and father, surrounded by her three big sisters, Madelyn, Hannah, Averie, and fur brother, Grayson.
Vivacious, brave, strong, courageous, smart, funny, sassy-sweet, and tender-hearted, Sky gave THE best snuggles and “hugs around the neck,” loved learning, arts and crafts, puzzles and books. She played games, rode her tricycle and bike, sang, danced, swam, and played PAW Patrol. The most important part of her life was spending time with her family, whether Sky was at home for a movie night and dance party, camping in the great outdoors, playing at the beach, or going to Disney World.
Skylar touched the lives of so many in ways that will remain with us forever, and leave us smiling through our tears. We will always remember the sound of her voice and laughter, and the sparkle of her baby blue eyes as she grinned.
Profoundly missed by all who knew her, especially her beloved Pop-Pop and Grammy, Edgar and Patricia Singleton; “Na-Na,” Beth Hoeveler; Nanny, Dolores Willey; Gammy, Linda Petras, plus many adoring aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral will be held Friday, May 8, for immediate family only, at Celebration Baptist Church. A memorial and celebration of life service is hoped to be held at a later date for the extraordinary “Support for Skylar” community.
In lieu of flowers, and for those who have asked how to help, David and Carrie are in the process of establishing a foundation, "Reach for the Sky to End Childhood Brain Cancers," to help other DIPG families and support continued research to end this terrible disease. All remaining gofundme contributions will go towards this foundation.https://www.gofundme.com/f/skylar-meckes
