

Stephen James Barger, Jr. (Jim) has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 17, 2025. A man who served God from the time he was 4 years old, singing in the choir at the Presbyterian Church in Peekskill, NY where he was born. Parents were Catherine M. Barger and Stephen James Barger, Sr. He moved to St Pete, FL on his 10th birthday. He attended local schools and St. Pete Jr College where he met his future wife of 66 years Yvonne Davis. He was baptized at the age of 19 at First Baptist Church. They married 1958 at the Church. He moved to Tallahassee in 1971. His service included Deacon in both St. Pete and Tallahassee First Baptist Churches, Training Union, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Love Day. He was chairman of the finance, personal property and endowment committees, Deacon Chair, Chairman of Deacons, Department Director of Medium II and III Sunday School and a youth teacher.
Serving The State of Florida as Bureau Chief Instate Audit Department of Revenue, also represented The State of Florida on a National level as Federation of Tax Administration Vice Chair. Testified before the Committee of Ways and Means, U.S. Congress on Public Works and Transportation. U.S. Congress, Dept of U.S. Treasury Internal Revenue Services for being a workshop Instructor Atlanta, receiving Certification of Appreciation Accommodations Award. State of Indiana and Minnesota awards for Motor Fuel Tax work. Outstanding Chairman award DOR Awards Committee.
After retirement, he continued to serve God at First Baptist Church and as Killearn Kiwanis President.
He was a FSU Football season ticket holder and attended the Quarterback Club.
He leaves behind his loving family of his wife Yvonne (who adored and cherished him), daughter Lynn (Gerard), son Steve, four grandchildren (spouses), six great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Sharron Reams.
