

Steve (as he was known by friends and family) was a long-time resident of Tallahassee, Florida, having moved from his hometown Coral Gables in 1972, to work in state government. He would go on to serve the State of Florida in various departments – including Health and Rehabilitative Services, Children and Families, and Revenue – as a career budget and finance analyst until his retirement in 2006.
He is a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam war and earning the rank of Captain. He also received a Master’s degree in Sociology from Florida State University.
Steve was an avid mariner, spending much of his time on the water at Shell Point, and participating in the Apalachee Bay Yacht Club. He was also a practitioner of Tai Chi and devoted member of the International Taoist Tai Chi Society in Tallahassee. Steve was a founding member of the Animal Aid Society and Spay and Neuter Clinic and served on the Animal Aid Foundation until recently.
His love of cooking was well known, as was his generosity and good nature. He was widely read, preferring the humanities, theology, philosophy, and metaphysics. He meditated regularly and later in life became an adherent of the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Steve was born on October, 7, 1944, in Coral Gables, Florida to Alfred I. Augustine and Caryl Goldstein. He is preceded by his children Scott Augustine, Blair Subhiyah; his sister Alex Augustine and brother Edward Augustine, and nephew Jedediah Augustine.
