Susan Elizabeth Hartman (Burn), 70, of Tallahassee died April 15, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born and raised in Wallingford, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas and Catherine May Burn, her sister, Judith Ann DeNight, and her nephew Joseph DeNight.
She will be greatly missed by her sister Kathryn D. Burn, her loving children Ellen Johnson (Michael), Milissa Nipper (Willard), Robert Hartman (Jeannie), and Christian Hartman (Courtney), grandchildren Brandi Tucker, Kristy Peltier, Brittany Nipper and Joshua Hartman, and two great grandchildren.
Susan worked as a property manager for various companies for many years and retired from the State of Florida Department of Health in 2015.
Susan faced her disease in the same way she tackled life – on her own terms and with fierce determination. Throughout her life she was never afraid to say what she thought. While life wasn’t always kind to her, she didn’t give up and fought her way forward. She had real spunk and could find the humor in almost any situation. Susan gave her children that same resiliency, indomitability and sense of humor.
Her final days were spent with her family at her daughter Ellen’s home surrounded by love just as she wanted. Her spirit, humor and fierceness will be well remembered by all who knew and loved her and will live on in her children and grandchildren. Thank you Susan for being who you were and for loving us. We will miss you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan’s name to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
A Visitation will be held Thursday evening, April 20, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Florida.
