Sybil was born in Dalton, Georgia, to George and Winnie Bryant and was the youngest of 10 children. She was married to Ed Henderson until his death in 1970. They had one child, Candace. When Ed, Sybil and Candace moved to Tallahassee from Dalton in 1955, Sybil first worked at The Diana Shop. She later worked at Mendelson’s Department Store as the buyer for their sportswear department. In order to gain employment that offered retirement benefits, she went to work for the Department of Public Safety and retired from there in April, 1981. Upon retiring, she and her friends enjoyed traveling. Sybil had a great love for FSU sports, golf (namely, Phil Mickelson) and all animals, big and small. She loved to take morning walks, read, solve crossword puzzles and spend time with family and friends.
Sybil was a member of First Baptist Church and was baptized, along with her daughter, in 1961. She remained a loyal member of that church and Donna Callaway’s Sunday school class until her death.
Sybil is survived by her daughter, Candace Hires, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church, located at 108 West College Avenue, Tallahassee, Florida, on June 14, 2012, at 3:00 P.M. A reception hosted by her Sunday school class will immediately follow in the adjoining church parlor.
Arranements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
