Thomas J. Jones

Tom was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, MI. He served in the Navy in California, Hawaii, and the Philippines. After graduating from Central Michigan University in 1972 he married Margery Mauritho from Riverview, MI. The following year Tom and Marge moved to Tallahassee where he earned his law degree at Florida State University. He was proud and honored when he became a senior partner with the Holland & Knight law firm and made some of his dearest friends there.

Tom and Marge lived more than ten years at Shell Point (Wakulla County), where they were members of the Apalachee Bay Yacht Club and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. They enjoyed the coastal living and sailing on their 32’ “Laissez Faire.” Upon moving back to Tallahassee, they joined the Capital City Country Club and took up golf as their new pastime. After their retirement, Tom and Marge often traveled internationally with friends from New Hampshire. They enjoyed fun-filled, educational tours of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, China, Kenya and Tanzania, New Zealand and Australia, Argentina, Patagonia, and Chile. They also enjoyed cruising throughout the Caribbean and in the Hawaiian Islands.

Tom was a loving husband and partner. His friends and family remember him as a kind, gentle, and loyal man who never said a harsh word about anyone. He was always there to help when asked.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Newell and Norma Louise (Cool) Jones; his sister Nerita Louise Reinke and her husband, Jim; and his sister-in-law Sharon Lucille Jones.

Tom is survived by Marge his wife of 43 years; his brother David L. Jones of Whitehall, MI; his sister-in-law Nancy Wing (Gus) of Drexel Hill, PA; his brother-in law Bill Mauritho (Pam) of Riverview, MI; and many wonderful nieces and nephews, all living in Michigan or Pennsylvania.

A casual celebration of Tom’s life will be held between 5pm – 8pm, Monday, March 28 at the Capital City Country Club, 1601 Golf Terrace Dr., Tallahassee, FL.
