

William L. "Pete" Hay, age 79, passed away Sunday evening after a short illness. Visitation will be held at Culley's Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191) on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm EST. Service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:00 am EST at First Baptist Church, 108 West College Ave., with burial following in Oakland Cemetery. Pete was born in Hogansville, Ga., on July 10, 1930 to James C. and Katie V. (Birdsong) Hay. He had resided in Tallahassee for the past forty-two years and had been retired from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles after serving thirty-two years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee and was active in Leon Sims' Sunday School Class, First Joy Choir and the Gospel Rockers Quartet. Pete is survived by his wife, Tawanna, of fifty-one years; son Karl (wife, Laura) Hay of Mt. Vernon, Ga.; daughter Sheryl (husband Farris) Vickery of Jacksonville, Fla.; son Keith (wife April) Hay of Tallahassee; brothers, James C. (wife Harriett) Hay Jr. of Ocala, Fla., and Larry V. Hay of Ft. Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Ryan Vickery, Krista Lee Vickery Fuchs (husband, Josh), Nathan Vickery, Curtis Hay, Jonathan Vickery, Rebecca Hay, Parker Hay, Kalin Hay and Sommer Hay. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Katherine Hay Standley Rager. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church 'Here for Life' or to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
