The Life of Anne Marie “Fafai” Faremise Roberts
Anne Marie “Fafai” Faremise Roberts was born on December 6, 1932 in Port Au Prince, Haiti to father, Alexandre Jean-Baptiste and mother, Lina Jeannot (both deceased). On December 10, 1951, Anne Marie married her beloved husband Joseph Chery (deceased) and bore eleven children – Raymonde Rigodon, Ricardo Chery (deceased), Luc Chery, Margaret Chery, Ronald Chery, Carmelite Chery, Surprise (Chery) Thelusma, Princeton Fernandez Chery, Peggy Chery (deceased), Pierline Chery, Michaele Chery, and her stepdaughter Brevinya Chery. While it is rare for lightning to strike twice, in 1973, Anne Marie remarried to Eugene Roberts, and bore him one child – Winifred Roberts.
Anne Marie migrated to the United States to pursue greater opportunities for her family in 1970. She dedicated herself to becoming a naturalized U.S. Citizen. She worked within the hospitality industry for many years, after which she transitioned into to the security profession, later retiring in the 1990s.
Anne Marie found God early in her life, and was baptized (In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit). She was a member of both Bethel Evangelical and Golden Glades Gospel Assembly, where she continued to pursue her relationship with God, in her final days. Her greatest joy was studying the word of God, she faithfully traveled with her bible, and it was customary to find her lounging in bed, with her large bible resting neatly on her lap. Spending time communing with God, was her favorite activity.
Anne Marie was a vibrant soul, and shared her beautiful smile, with the world. She was full of joy and jokes and was always eager to enjoy life, with the family and friends she loved so much. She loved music, and enjoyed dancing, she was often the last one left on the dance floor. She had the enviable talent to make you feel great – “Has she ever told you that you look 16?” Her relationships meant the world to her, and she never missed an opportunity to ask a family member or friend, “where’ve you been?”
Anne Marie was preceded in death by her loving grandson Luc Junior Chery, her son and daughter Ricardo and Peggy Chery, her siblings, Raphael Jean-Baptiste, Liz Jean Baptiste, Edner Jean-Baptiste, Elurde Jean-Baptiste, Andre Jean-Baptiste, Arnold Jean-Baptiste and her devoted husband Joseph Chery.
Anne Marie leaves a large loving family to mourn her – eleven of thirteen children, more than 40 grandchildren, 30+ great grandchildren, 20+ nieces and nephews, her sibling Jeannot Jean-Baptiste, and her adopted and extended family members, too numerous to count. Under the care of her physicians and nurses, and surrounded by her family and friends, Anne Marie “Fafai” Faremise Roberts, concluded her earthly journey on January 11, 2020.
