Errol Owen Boothe, the second child of Samuel and Adassa Boothe (née Williams) was born on October 9, 1959 in Kingston, Jamaica. He grew up in a nuclear family in Greenwich Town, Jamaica but had many siblings with whom he purposefully forged and subsequently enjoyed close relationships.
After basic and primary school, Errol attended and graduated from Kingston College where he passed nine subjects in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) “O” Level examinations, then went on to join his older brother, Samuel, Jr., at Camperdown High School, where he had success in a few subjects at the GCE “A” Level of examination as well.
From his first job as a bank teller, to working as a Studio Engineer at the then Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, now Television Jamaica (TVJ) to operating his own businesses, Errol worked hard and strived on his own terms, to achieve the best in everything.
In 1986 he met Donna, a student nurse at the then University Hospital of the West Indies. They resided together over several years in Jamaica and the US, culminating in the birth of their son, Brandon. Errol and Donna remained very close friends over the years while co-parenting their son.
Errol lived and breathed entrepreneurship. After leaving the JBC, his first foray into entrepreneurship was purchasing wristwatches for resale. From there, he built a thriving import/export business, selling almost anything from home appliances to cars. He opened his first store in Kingston then another in Montego Bay. However, due to the significant depreciation of the Jamaican dollar, making goods imported to the country much more expensive, and the birth of his son in Florida, Errol decided to immigrate to the United States. Except for one instance, in which he worked for a local import/export company, where he managed to last only for a few months, Errol's entrepreneurial spirit was in full form when he closed his eyes for the last time. Errol's legacy includes having promoted the idea of business ownership in every person he met.
Business had slowed significantly over the last few years, but, persistent and never to be outdone, Errol made sure this idea continued with his son who is a graduate of Babson College, one of the leading entrepreneurial colleges in the US.
Errol enjoyed playing cricket in his formative years but his passion for sports was most evident, in that he loved to watch and score almost any of them, including table tennis, lawn tennis, swimming, golf, baseball, football, soccer and his favorite, basketball. When his son played little league sports, his enthusiasm on the sidelines was a force with which to reckon.
Strikingly handsome, affable, unassumingly witty, gregarious, kind-hearted and fun-loving, Errol enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and never missed the opportunity to travel on road trips with them. He enjoyed food, listening to music, dancing, current events and political discussions, and of course, sports. From time to time, Errol would volunteer at various community events including those at his son's school.
A good human being, loved by those who knew him and a doting dad, Errol was called home to his final rest with God, in the early morning hours of January 31, 2023.
Errol was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon.
He is survived by his only child, Brandon, several sisters, brothers, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Errol’s physical presence will be missed, truly.
