Jean Mildred Haab was born January 1, 1934 as Jean Mildred Weinrich to August and Mildred Weinrich of Floral Park, Long Island, New York as their second child of two.

Having completed her primary education it was expected, in her family, that a woman went to work and/or started a family. Jean desired a higher level of education and attended Hofstra College on Long Island. Then onto Cornell University in upstate New York where she earned her degree in nursing. She returned to Long Island and started her nursing residency at New York Hospital.

Shortly after, she met the love of her life Robert (Bob) Haab, a US Navy SeaBees veteran, at a friend’s wedding. Stories of Bob picking her up after she fell off a bar-stool, seem to be nothing more than exaggerated family lore. Though we sometimes wonder, with the love Jean had for a great margarita or whiskey sour with fresh grapefruit juice, of which Bob expertly crafted.

In June 1957, Jean Weinrich married Robert Haab and settled in their first home in Beth Page, Long Island, New York. Three children followed, Kenneth, Gail and Glenn.

While being a loving and caring wife and mother to her family, she would use her nursing education to take care of family, friends and neighbors children. It wasn’t uncommon to hear a knock at the door all hours of the day and night, asking Jean to help bandage a cut or recommend action for a child not feeling well. Her compassion was endless.

In 1974, Jean and the family relocated south to Tamarac, Florida. Jean continued to raise and care for her family. After her youngest son started high school, she returned to school to update her nursing certification and state license. She became a member of the nursing staff at University Community Hospital and continued her life of care giving while making many lifelong friendships with her fellow nurses.

Jean and Bob would also develop the love of travel. Beginning in a travel trailer visiting campgrounds and state parks. Then with the children out of the house, upgrading to fine hotels as their travels took them internationally to over 36 countries.

Jean along with “Her Bob “would love to dance, spend time in the pool, at the beach, dinners with friends, and volunteering at Navy league and All Saints Lutheran Church, where she was an active member for more than 39 years.

Jean would always have time to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending school functions, graduations, weddings, births, and sporting events of all kinds.

Jean’s “love of her life“ Bob went to be with Jesus in 2011, after 54 years of marriage. She relied on her strong faith that she would dance with Bob again in heaven one day.

Jean is survived by her three children and their spouses, Ken and Sandi Haab of Key Largo, Gail and Frank Good of Lake Worth, and Glenn and Carolyn Haab of Coral Springs, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and many dear friends who became family.
