Marie Carmel Sam

Marie Carmel Sam also affectionately known as “FouFoune” was born on May 12, 1946 In Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to Silencieux and Lucienne Dieudonne. She grew up in Haiti and as a child she enjoyed being in her mother’s bakery. Marie started working as an aesthetician at the age of 16 after the untimely death of her father. She later migrated to New York in 1969. She married in 1971 and gave birth to Luc Edner Sam in 1972, Marie Judith Sam-Laurent in 1974, Natasha Sam-Brown in 1979 and Marie Barnes in 1985.

In 1989 they moved to Miami, Florida and Marie worked as a counselor at League Against Aids, there she found her purpose in helping others. Marie welcomed everyone with open arms and was always there to encourage and pray for others. She later moved on from being a counselor and worked as a secretary, a Nurses Aid and a ticket agent at Sea Escape Cruise lines. No matter what her profession was she always found a way to be of service to others and share the gospel.

Marie loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with all her heart, and she loved God’s Word. Though she was a humble, gentle woman, Marie was a powerful prayer warrior, and only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful praying have had on her family, her friends, and the world at large. She participated in various community activities including prayer groups. She was an example of a Godly woman, putting her faith first in all she did.

Marie Carmel Sam, 74, went to be with her heavenly father on August 22, 2020 after a long fight with Alzheimer’s and heart disease. Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Marie is survived by her son, Luc Edner Sam; daughter, Marie Judith Sam-Laurent and husband Pascal Laurent; daughter, Natasha Sam-Brown and husband David Brown; daughter, Marie Barnes and husband Dwight Barnes; 9 grandchildren, Abbygail Sam; Jeremiah Sam; Arielle Laurent; Sebastian Laurent; Tariq Laurent; Dajah Brown; Danah Brown; David Brown Jr.; and Amarriah Barnes.
