There were many common events that took place in 1975, but that year the most important event for Marion and Theresa Sims was the birth of their son. Troy Jevone Sims was born on July 19, 1975, at Broward General Medical Center, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. These proud parents were elated that they had a boy-child to carry on the Sims' name.
A Time to Learn: Troy's school years included attendance at Saint Anthony Catholic School and his First Communion. The next phase was attending Seminole Middle School where he learned the fundamentals of playing baseball and soccer. Then came the exploratory stage of high school where he graduated from South Plantation High School in the Class of 1994.
A Time for Family: While living and working in Tallahassee, Florida, Troy met and became infatuated with Kathryn Phillips. They were married in 2005. They were rewarded with the ultimate joys of their lives, two children, Gabriel Joseph and Leah Theresa.
A Time to Work: Being a "people-oriented person", Troy pursued jobs where he interacted with people from all walks of life and all levels of society. His Class A CDL Licensing garnered him opportunities in the Transportation Industry. He was able to secure employment with companies such as AAA Cooper Transportation, Southeastern Freight Lines, and other subsidiaries of the Ryder Systems. Troy continued in this field until his work life was curtailed due to illness.
A Time for Rest, Recreation and Relaxation: Troy loved to fish and was always lucky enough to catch the biggest fish. His obsession with fishing led him to purchase two boats so that he could fish whenever he wanted to. In addition to his desired pastime of fishing, he had a genuine love for travel; it didn't matter whether it was by land, air or sea.
A Time to Transition: On November 28, 2025, after an extended illness, Troy transitioned from this earthly life at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
A Time for Remembering: Along with his children, Gabriel Joseph and Leah Theresa Sims, Troy will be remembered by his loving mother, Theresa Sims; sister, Lori Sims; devoted fiancée, Vanessa Figueredo; two aunts, Cecelia Griffin and Edwina Shelton; one uncle, Lemuel Griffin; former spouse, Kathryn Sims; supporting cousins, Savita Taylor (Orren) and Julie Hamilton. Others who will miss him dearly and are too numerous to name include cousins and friends. It is without saying that Scooby, his dog, will be monitoring his bedroom door.
