Valerie Hunter of Tamarac, Florida-If you left Valerie a message on her phone you would hear her announce gleefully that she was, “playing with butterflies and dancing on moonbeams.” Valerie was a spiritual being who believed in the power and love of God, the metaphysical connection between people and the universe, and the inherent goodness of all people. Valerie found her career calling in helping people. From helping people obtain training and employment, to black adoptions, bereavement counseling, and volunteer coordinating. Valerie loved rainbows, butterflies, and it was a little-known fact that she collected carvings and sculptures of elephants.
Valerie was born in Kingston, Jamaica to John and Icilda Service (Patterson). She spent her formative years being raised by her “Granny” in Jamaica with her brother Selvyn (deceased) and all of her “Patterson cousins”. Valerie is predeceased by her husband, George Clyde Hunter and she is survived by a loving daughter, Sonia Bailey and her children Jalil, Shafia, and Jabari. She also leaves behind a loving son, Hamid and his wife Adele. She will be missed by her “Hunter Grandchildren” Luqman, Suraayah, Khadija, Idris, Saidah, Jamila, and Isaiah. Valerie was 82..
A celebration of life for Valerie will be held Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Dr. Von D Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park - Manatee Pavilion, 6503 North Ocean Drive, Dania Beach, FL 33004.
