

William Baldwin Salhab, known in his youth as Willie and later as Bill or Mr. Bill. The son of Chykra Salhab a ship captain who immigrated to Grenada from, Syria who died when he went down with his infamous ship, “The Island Queen” off the coast of Grenada in 1942. His mother was Emily Sealy who died when he was 3 years old. He grew up with Chykra’s older sisters and his sister Jean (deceased). He attended Fletcher School and then went on to graduate from Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS). That is when he began training in his trade, auto body repair with his brother Gordon Salhab (deceased).
In 1942, he joined the army and was stationed in St. Lucia. When the war was over he returned to Grenada and continued his auto body training. He immigrated to London England in 1955 and was employed at Car Mart. In 1960 he met up with his childhood sweetheart, Mary Louise Marrast. They were married in 1965 and were blessed with a daughter (Jennifer) in 1966 and a son in 1967 (Jeffery). The family then moved to the U.S, aboard the Queen Elizabeth II in 1971. They lived in Crown Heights with their wonderful cousins, the Roberts family for a few years before moving to East New York, Brooklyn where he set up his own auto body shop. He worked there for 20 years until they retired and settled into sunny South Florida in 1993. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Louise, daughter, Jennifer Graniela (nee Salhab) and son Jeffery Salhab. Grandchildren Dominick and Gabrielle Graniela (Jennifer) and Amanda Salhab (Jeffery) and great granddaughter Mia Nunez (Amanda). Nieces, Kim, Sandra, Jill, Joy and Minnie. Nephews, Gino, Tyrone, Gordon, Jr and Sonny.
Bill was predeceased by his brother Gordon Salhab, sisters Cynthia Arthur- Wong, Jean Bernadine and nephew Joseph Arthur-Wong.
