Barbara was born in Quitman, Georgia, the oldest of four daughters. She moved to Tampa, Florida at a young age and grew up to work at and retire from The Hillsborough County Tax Collectors Office. Barbara spent her time after retirement caring for her family, volunteering in her community, serving in her church, and traveling the world. Barbara volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and at local hospitals. She travelled frequently with her best friend, Shirley, and her family. Barbara will be remembered as a fiercely independent woman, a loving mother and grandmother, a passionate follower of Jesus, and a valued member of her community.

She is survived by her three younger sisters, Sharon Swafford, Helen Rentz, Pam Tate; three daughters and their husbands, Gay and David Carr, Cindy and Gary Guy, Robin and Joe McCarthy; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Barbara’s family would like to acknowledge the dedicated caregivers who served her in the last years of her life and who showed exceptional compassion and love to her.
