

He was born on August 23, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Irma Blake and Patrick Augustus Kennedy. He spent his formative years growing up in Puerto Cortés, Honduras, an experience that helped shape his perspective on family, culture, and community. Curtis was raised in a foundation of faith and was baptized in the Catholic tradition.
Curtis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 27 years. His military career was marked by dedication, discipline, and honor, and he carried those values throughout his life.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought strength, wisdom, and warmth to those who knew him. He took great pride in his family and cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving children: daughter Senta Gilliam Thomas (husband, Cecil) of Allen, Texas, and her children, Chloe Grace Thomas and Sydney Elyse Thomas; son Curtis Kennedy, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; and daughter Shawanda Pounds of Los Angeles, California, and her son, Titus West.
He is also survived by his brothers, Rue Babb and Julian Babb, both of New York City; his sister, Ivy Yarde of New York City; and his lifelong friend since childhood, Maria Hewie of New York City, along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Irma Blake and Patrick Augustus Kennedy.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2026 one hour prior to the Celebration of Life services at 11:00 a.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Avenue,Tampa, Florida. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
