

and a resident for 80 years where she met and married her only husband, John.
Upon graduation from Jefferson High School and thereafter Tampa Business
College, she began doing accounting work for a local company. It was during that
time she and her husband started their own accounting and tax preparation firm.
They operated and grew their business successfully for nearly 40 years until her
husband’s passing. She retired shortly thereafter.
Dora was a lifelong member and part of the founding congregation of St.
John’s Presbyterian Church. Over the years, she served her church in various
capacities and positions. She was an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction.
She frequented her local library and bookstores on a weekly basis until a month
before her passing. Dora also loved to cook, especially for family gatherings and
holidays. She was an advocate for and a fierce defender of her family.
Dora as predeceased by her beloved husband John Diaz Sr. and her
precious daughter, Dora Jean, as well as her brothers, Raul and Nilo Mederos.
She is survived by her sisters, Gloria Goins and Elaine Kennedy, her son, John
Diaz Jr. (Sherry) her grandson, Dallas (Natasha) and her granddaughter, Kady
Squires (Casey) as well as her great-grandchildren, Kalina, Cason and Kellen.
She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law and mother of her
grandchildren, Kim Diaz (Kevin Owen) who were helpful and supportive to the
very end. A very special thanks to her sister, Elaine for her compassion, patience
and dedication.
Dora was resilient through life’s most difficult adversities, was steadfast and
unwavering in her purpose and always remained committed to her faith. Dora loved
her family and friends. She will be missed in many ways too numerous to list.
Visitation will be held at Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa
on Friday, May 16, at 2 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 pm, with burial at
3 pm.
