Edward Desmond Elliott hailed from the stunning island of St. Lucia and was brought up in Vieux Fort
before relocating to Castries alongside his siblings and parents, Albert Elliott and Majorie Douglas-Elliott.
At the age of 18, he worked as a manager at a sugarcane factory at Culdesac, St. Lucia. He later worked as a life insurance agent for about six months with First Federation Insurance Company. Later, he moved to Ascension Island, where he was contracted to work for a year but ended up working five extra months as a bookkeeper and later as a warehouse manager. At 21, he was already managing 20 people.
His next destination was St. Croix, where he worked at HESS Oil Refinery as an instrument pipe fitter. His
experience on Ascension Island helped him excel at his new position. Within a month, he became the head of the department. Later on, he moved to Merwin Hardware Store, where he worked as a supervisor. He eventually left to work at Woolworths for a few years as a store manager.
During that time, he enrolled in the College of the Virgin Islands and pursued a degree in management.
However, his fondness for working with numbers made him shift his focus to accounting. His college
professor, Mr. Bruminshingle, offered him a job at his company even before Edward graduated. After some time, he went to work at Wnandreas Esberg and Company CPA Firm in Christianstead, doing accounting and income taxes. He stayed there for about four years. At this point, he realized he needed to establish his own accounting firm. His degree in Accounting from the College of the Virgin Islands, along with his extensive experience in the field, had transformed him into a seasoned expert.
After an agreement to purchase an established accounting firm fell through, he decided to move his family
to Florida since his eldest child was almost ready for college. In Florida, he incorporated his accounting firm while opening and managing his other businesses. Mr. Elliott owned a booth in the Hialeah Flea Market, a booth at the 7th Ave. Flea Market, Link’s Auction Outlet, Elliott Gift World on 7th Ave. in Miami.
Gradually, his accounting firm, "Elliott Business Services," had grown enough to support his family, so he
closed all the other businesses and focused solely on his accounting firm until his retirement in December 2023.
During his free time, he indulged in several hobbies, such as watching football and basketball games,
swimming, exploring new places, and helping others develop strong businesses. As for his sources of
inspiration, he found watching television shows and movies quite relaxing. He gained great pleasure and
valuable insights and knowledge from learning about the happenings in the Caribbean islands, which piqued his curiosity. When he felt down, he focused on his drive to accomplish more and helping others. Being of assistance to people filled him with immense satisfaction. He enjoyed making a positive impact in their lives.
Financial stability and the presence of friends and family brought him the greatest joy. Edward Elliott
cherished spending time with his loved ones and relished the experience of hosting and attending parties.
Witnessing groups of people laughing, eating, and enjoying each other's company filled him with an unbridled sense of happiness.
The island of St. Lucia held a special place in his heart and was his ultimate happy place. Visiting the island always left him with lasting memories and brought him endless amounts of joy. Conversely, observing people take advantage of others and neglect their own talents and abilities saddened him.
Some of his favorites were the color yellow, traveling to new countries, watching sports games, particularly football and basketball, and performing accounting work.
Edward Elliott lived by his mother's words, "Never stop learning," as he believed that knowledge is power
and can never be taken away. He was a firm believer in the philosophy, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,". This shaped his outlook on life.
