

Ellen Hammond Ogden, our sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many, departed this earthly life at 92 years of age on Friday, May 12, 2023, passing peacefully surrounded by her loving family. A 5th generation Floridian, Ellen was born Nicolina Ellen Munjiovi in Tampa on March 19, 1931, to Myrtle and Morris Munjiovi. In 1954 she married the love of her life Earl Hammond and together they settled on Chapel Way in Tampa with numerous close friends to raise their family of five. Ellen was an active member of Most Holy Redeemer parish since 1955 where she participated in the parish school PTA, served as a member of the First Parish Council, sang in the church choir since 1968, and most recently served as Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. Shortly after Earl’s passing in 1967 Ellen went to nursing school and in 1975 became a LPN. She was a much admired nurse at Tampa General Hospital, caring for patients in the cardiac surgery unit. It was her calling and she ministered it well.
Later, Ellen met Richard Ogden whom she married in 1986. They remained married until his passing in 2015. Ellen is survived by her sister, Nancy Blount, of The Villages; her brother Frank Mungiovi of Ft. Meyers; and her five children: David (Ellen) Hammond of Wesley Chapel; Susan (John) Ganio of Tampa; Brian (Cynthia) Hammond, of Zephyrhills; Nancy (Curt) Brown of Lutz; and Amy Hammond (Tommy) Garcia of Orlando. Ellen is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Lisa Hammond of Bow, NH; Adria (Jay) Friedman of Tampa; Julie (Jon) Lewerenz of Tampa; Matthew (Amanda) Ganio of Lutz; Emelia (Aaron) Farnsworth of Long Island, NY; Hannah (Zack) Busch of Tampa; Nathan Hammond of Orlando; Tennison Hammond of Wesley Chapel; Abigail Brown of Ft. Meyers, Jack Brown of Tampa, and Owen nd Ella Garcia of Orlando.
Finally, she is survived by five great-grandchildren Benjamin and Blake Friedman of Tampa; Andrew and Hailey Lewerenz also of Tampa, and Sofia Acevedo of Lutz. Ellen’s farewell service will be held Saturday, June 3, at the Blount and Curry Funeral Home at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, FL, 33610. (813) 626-3161. Visitation hours begin at 10:00am. The farewell service follows in the chapel at 11:00am.
