It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eulene Hancock, affectionately known by her nickname “Rooster,” who died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Lutz, Florida, at the age of 85.
Eulene was born on July 23, 1940, in Walker County, Alabama, to the late Olen Hancock and Lela C. Brown. The family moved to Tampa, Florida, in 1954 from Birmingham, Alabama. Eulene was a beloved presence in her family and was blessed to live her entire life at home, nurtured by the constant love of her parents and family.
While Eulene navigated unique challenges throughout her life, she taught those around her profound lessons about resilience, pure love, and the beauty of finding joy in simple things. High-spirited and quick to smile, she possessed a contagious laugh that brightened any room.
She had a vibrant love for music and dancing, especially to the tunes of Elvis Presley. With a memory "like an elephant," she could recall her favorite artists and their songs, as well as every important family event. Eulene cherished watching classic television such as The Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw. A highlight of her year was the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; she would eagerly await Santa Claus’s appearance at the end, signaling that her favorite holiday, Christmas, was near.
Simple pleasures brought her the greatest delight. A particularly proud milestone later in her life, while living with her sister Jessie, was learning to ride a three-wheel bicycle. Her life was a testament to patience and unconditional love. She truly enjoyed being surrounded by family, talking with them, and hearing stories of their lives and special occasions.
Eulene was preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Lela; her sisters, Betty J. (Jay) Wiggins, Jessie M. (Samuel) Bercaw, and Linda G. Capkovic; her brother, Charles W. Sr. (Amelia Perfect); sisters-in-law Mary Brackett Hancock and Phyllis Farmer Hancock; and four nephews.
She is survived by her loving brothers, Thomas R. of Parrish, Alabama, and Louis M. of Tampa, Florida; her sister, Brenda J. (Kenneth) Brackett of Lakeland, Florida; 22 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Eulene will forever hold a special place in all our hearts.
Eulene was truly happy and knew she was deeply loved.
Pallbearers: Roger Wiggins, Chuck Hancock Jr., Ernest Hancock, Edward Hancock, Samuel Abney Jr., and Joseph Brackett.
A graveside service will be held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, located at E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610, United States. The service is scheduled for December 27, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am.
