He was born on December 7, 1935 to Umberto and Rosario Martinez at El Bien Publico Gonzalez Clinic in Tampa, Florida.
Gilbert worked as a Tile Salesman for Tampa Tile until his retirement in 2007. As a native Floridian, he grew up enjoying his family’s Key West roots and visited there often.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents Umberto and Rosario Martinez, his life long friends Sam Puleo, Sam Capitano and Junior Alvarez,(The Pack).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia Jean Martinez, his children, Lori Welch(Lynn), Gilbert Martinez Jr(Mary Jo), Yvette Diehm(Ric); His grandchildren, Melanie Welch, Alexander Welch(Natasha), Selah Diehm, and Eliana Isabel Martinez; His Great Grandaughter Amyah Welch Corujo; His Cousins Yolanda Licata, Edma Shirey, Rollie and Papo Vildostegui and his life long friend Tommy Regano.
In lieu of a funeral the family will be having a small intimate celebration of life. Please keep the Martinez family in your prayers.
