It is with heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Dr. Haruyoshi "Harry" Honda, a dedicated physician, loving husband, and cherished father. Born on July 29, 1938, in Iwaki City, Fukushima, Japan, to Miyo and Mitsuji Honda, with his older sister, Reiko, and younger brothers Ikuro, Katsuo, and Tadashi, Harry’s journey in life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his profession and family.
Harry’s academic career began at Gunma University, where he completed medical school with distinctions. Eager to broaden his horizons, he traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii, to complete a surgical internship at Tripler Hospital. This phase of his training paved the way for his acceptance into a Neurosurgery Residency at the esteemed Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
It was during his residency that Harry found joy in a new passion – golf, a sport he embraced while caddying and translating for Japanese golfers at the Masters Tournament. This love for golf would become a lifelong pursuit.
In the midst of his professional journey, Harry entered into an arranged marriage with Sachiko Otaka, a partnership that blossomed into a loving family. Together, they shared a rich and fulfilling life and raised two wonderful children, their son Koji and daughter Miwa, in Moline, Illinois, where Harry joined a surgical practice.
After a fulfilling career and building a beautiful family, Harry and Sachiko retired to Tampa, Florida. Here, Harry enjoyed his golden years, often found on the golf course, a place where he found peace and contentment.
On September 2, 2025, Harry passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family, at Advent Tampa Hospital. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his field and a loving family who will continue to honor his memory.
Harry's life was a testament to professional dedication, familial love, and the simple joys of a well-rounded life. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
