BLACKMER, James H. (Jim) It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Blackmer announces his passing on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at the age of 76 years. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn; daughter, Susan (Scott) Stallard; and sister, Julie. Jim was predeceased by his mother, Mildred O'Kelley and his father, Horace Blackmer. Jim lived in Ohio, Indiana and Georgia before moving to Tampa. Jim graduated from Plant HS and attended USF. He served in the Army for 3 years in Germany and Oklahoma. After he retired from Verizon, he was given an amazing opportunity to design and build instrument panels for experimental airplanes. He was also a skilled wood craftsman and created memorable pieces for his friends and family. Jim had an eclectic love of music- from Bach to Jean Michael Jarre. Some of his fondest memories were playing trombone in the marching band and singing baritone in church choirs. The Blackmer family is deeply grateful for the Doctors and staff at Moffitt Cancer Center, the Blue Team at Hospice and the many caregivers that helped him in his battle against brain cancer. His treatment was provided by highly skilled and compassionate professionals. Dr. Sahebjam and Kim Phillips were his guiding angels. A Commemorative Service in memory of Jim will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood, 3297 W Bearss Avenue 33618. The Blackmer family would be honored to visit with you to share our love and stories about Jim prior to the service from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.. If you would like to remember Jim by a donation, please give it to the charity of your choice.
