Jan Patricia Bates, 68, of Temple Terrace, Florida passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 with her loving and devoted spouse, Sharon "Boots" Sullivan of 30 years and family by her side. Jan retired from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office after 35 years of serving her community. She was awarded Civilian of the Year from A.J.A Nationwide. Jan loved watching sports and was an avid true blue USF fan "Go Bulls".
One of her proudest moments, besides when she married the love of her life Boots in 2015, was riding her bicycle from Washington State to Washington D.C. in the GTE Big Ride in 1998. She enjoyed traveling exploring mountains and finding waterfalls throughout her travels. When she wasn't traveling, Jan enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her animals.
Jan's devotion to her grandmother, Boots and the ones she loved knew no limits, and her charm and sense of humor endeared her to all she met. Above all, she treasured time with her family and friends, always ready to offer unwavering support to anyone in times of need. Jan will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jeanne Bates.
She is survived by her spouse, Sharon "Boots Sullivan; brother, John Bates and his wife Sandra; sister, Deborah and her husband, Allen; step mother, Kay; her four legged companions and many close friends.
