Janet Myers, 87 years old, from Odessa, Florida died on August 15th, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital North following months of illness. She was born in Canton Township, Illinois to Eugene and Catherine Strawn on December 7, 1935. She married Danny Myers on August 29, 1954 in Canton Illinois and they had a long and loving marriage for 49 years. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Jane) Myers of Illinois, David (Elaine) Myers of Florida and Nancy (Mark) Thompson of North Carolina. She had nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
While having spent a great deal of her life in multiple cities in Illinois related to Danny’s career at Caterpillar, Janet loved the experience of moving to Belgium for four years with her young family due to Danny’s job transfer. She learned French while living there and enjoying travels around Europe. Upon returning to the U.S., she finished a bachelor’s degree in French at Bradley University and became a language tutor for Caterpillar teaching expats and their families. As with her other international travel experiences, she cherished the time spent in Australia as well.
She had lived full time in Florida for many years after retiring there with her husband. They enjoyed golfing and entertaining visitors and family. She also enjoyed watching sports including tennis and baseball.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Roland Strawn.
Janet faced a number of health issues over the years and met them all with a fierce determination and desire to beat the odds. This has and will continue to serve as an inspiration to her entire family for generations to come.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
