I learned about John's death this morning. I was shocked and I was at a loss for words. I spent the day reminiscing about our experiences as roommates. 

John was the kind of person you wished everyone was: easy to talk to, affable, eager to listen, a storyteller, protective and someone you could lean on when you had a troubling day.

He was a very amusing man, had a great sense of humor and a very nice man. It's an awful thing to say when someone is simply "nice," but believe me when I say it in the most sincere way. John was a very decent person, and he was tremendously interested in my life and my daily routines as a college student.

Every time we talked and discussed any and all topics, I was blown away. He constantly stretched my brain in ways I never thought possible, from discussions on politics, philosophy, religion, fiction and so on. It was a joy and a treat to know to him, to learn things from him. He had such a knowledge and an experience of the world and its intricacies. 

Forever, I will cherish the memories being his roommate, the discussions we had and the friendship we had.


John was my son's room mate in Shippensburg.  He was the best room mate one could ask for.  Justin is much younger than John,  and John was like a big brother to him.  He made him healing tea when he was sick, discussed politics, philosophy, and life, and was great company for Justin.  John said he "doesn't cook for anyone" but he gave Justin samples - and tasty samples they were.  I am so sorry that John's life ended so soon, but I am certain that he is enjoying  his Heavenly reward.  In the brief time we knew him, we found him to be a wonderful man.

I will always remember John as the father of my granddaughter Mikaela who tried to be the best dad he could be. He enjoyed golfing with Mikaela's Grandpa and was always very good to my husband and me.  We will miss him but we look to the time we can meet him in a better world where there will be no more suffering.  May he rest in peace. So many memories of him in junior high and high school, many surrounding a sport of some kind.  My favorite memory is from junior high when he was a part of a group that competed in a track event in Wilkes-Barre.  Doc Martinelli and Mr. Woolsey took a bunch of ragtag 7th and 8th graders up to compete against a bunch of junior high teams from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area with their fancy uniforms, track spikes and many hours of practice.   We showed up in gym shorts, mismatched tee shirts, everyday sneakers and tube socks to our knees.  But, we cleaned house with John leading the way in the sprints on the track!  Always such a gifted athlete, and strong as hell.  

I am sorry for you loss.  Prayers to you all-

Always and forever one of the good guys.  A smile that brightened my day throughout my childhood - John was someone that could be counted on for  a laugh, words of encouragement and a hug.  Grateful to have known him and so truly sorry to hear of his passing.  I'll never forget you my friend.

I went to high school with John and played football with him. He was a great guy, always smiling.
