

He was a proud Tampa native. He attended Hillsborough High School until he enlisted in the United States Navy. Once in the Navy he was assigned to the ship Observation Island to which his duties there were as a boiler tender. After completing his duties in the Navy he went on to work for the Seaboard Coastline Railroad. There he worked as a conductor for 42 years.
Joseph loved the Lord, his wife and family, racing, old movies, and his wife's southern cooking. A devoted husband to his wife Leatrice Diane Lane for 55 years. Joseph loved to talk and tell stories of his family and the history of where he came from. He was a hardworking and wonderful father to three children. He loved and cherished his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father Joseph M. Lane, Jr (d.1991); his mother Nelda Alice Jerkins Lane (d.1955); his brother Alonzo Jerkins Lane (d.2024); his beloved uncle Frank E. Jerkins (d.2018).
Survived by his wife, Leatrice Diane Lane; son Joseph M. Lane IV; daughters: Lorrie Lane Flores (Alejandro) and Jessica Lane Luis (Albert); brother Edwin Lane, sisters: Donna Lane Lauf (Kenneth); Joanne Lane Reeder, and Marsha lane Kahler. Grandchildren: Lance Simon, Emily Berry, Nathan Skinner, Erin Skinner Dupepe (Noah), Gabrielle Lane, Noah Frelich, Lane Luis, and Alejandro Flores. Great grandson Easton Dupepe as well as a host of loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joseph M. Lane will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Joseph will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM , a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM ,at Blount&Curry Funeral Home @ Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, Tampa.
