Lorraine May Sahler

Lorraine Sahler, age 94, Tampa, Florida passed away gently on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Lutz, Florida. Lorraine was born in Harvey, Illinois to Theodore and Sophie Tychewicz on April 23, 1931. She graduated high school in Harvey, and soon began working for Walgreen’s on Blue Island, as an apprentice pharmacist and cosmetician. She married Wayne Sahler on September 16. 1950 at St. Susannah’s Catholic Church in Harvey. In 1957 they moved with their first 4 children to Tampa. In 1974, when their 5th child was 12, Lorraine started night classes at the University of South Florida. In 1978, with a 3.5 grade average, she earned her B.A. Degree, majoring in Elementary Education.

“Mrs. Sahler” was a beloved teacher for 25 years at St. Lawrence Catholic School, retiring in 1995. She taught two generations of kindergarten students and grades 1, 2, 5, 7, and 8. Lorraine volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader for 5 years and taught CCD classes for 6 years at St. Lawrence prior to teaching school. She volunteered as a Pink Lady and later as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Lorraine was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor society in 1978, and was a member of The Girl Scouts of America, The National Reading Association, The National Association of Catholic Educators and a longtime member of the Audubon Society. She enjoyed taking cruises with friends, tai chi, birdwatching, hiking, reading and gardening.

Lorraine is preceded in death by husband Wayne Sahler, sisters, Florence Janca and Mary Lou Baldwin, parents; Sophie (Nawraca) Ecklund, and Theodore Tychewicz, and grandson, Gabriel House.

Lorraine is survived by her children; Leslie Sahler (Larry Ciesla), Cherie Dacko (William), Randy Sahler, Suzanne House (Brad), and Laurie Miller, her grandchildren; Taylor Dacko (Kristina Gonzalez), Quinn Sahler, Rebekah Hooks (Donny), Dustin House (Kristi), Jeremy House (Casey), Madeline Miller, Leigh Miller and Juliette Miller, and her great-grandchildren; Aurelia Dacko, Adriana Dacko, Caspian Sahler, Teagan House and Logan House.

A visitation for Lorraine will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 17512 Lakeshore Rd, Lutz, FL 33558. A funeral Mass will follow from 11:00 PM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service will occur Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4202 E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610.
