Mary G. Spanton, 93, passed away on August 7, 2024, at her home in Tampa. Born and raised in Tampa, Mary graduated from Sacred Heart Academy where she excelled on the championship basketball team. The loves of her life were her husband, her family, and her home. Among the many hobbies she enjoyed were sewing, bowling, painting, and gardening. In her later years, she enjoyed watching her favorite sports on TV; tennis and baseball, especially the Rays and the Braves.
Mary was known by many different names: Mom, Mother, Grandma, Godmother, Great Grandma, and May-May. She loved children and was like a godmother to many. She influenced their lives by teaching them to sew, swim, bake, and fish.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Arthur. She is survived by her children, Wayne (Leigh), Suzanne Roberts, and Paul (Jayne); grandchildren, Lindsay Puffer (Lincoln), Ryan Micheli (Jessica), and Kasey Anderson (Maxwell); 5 great-grandchildren; and other family.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic
Church, 15520 N. Blvd, Tampa, FL.
